The Spicers Creek Wind Farm in NSW’s Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone, is poised to become one of the state’s largest renewable energy projects. Ethos Urban was engaged by Squadron Energy to prepare an Economic Impact Assessment (EIA) in support of the State Significant Development.
Spicers Creek Wind Farm is located on Wiradjuri Country, west of Gulgong and 25km northeast of Wellington, NSW. The project is situated in the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ).
The 700MW wind farm is one of the largest approved in NSW and is proposed to include up to 117 wind turbines and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 395,000 homes and prevent 650,000 tonnes of emissions annually
The project has been recognised as a State Significant Development (SSD) under NSW planning legislation. Ethos Urban prepared an Economic Impact Assessment to support the project’s required Environment Impact Statement (EIS).
The EIA identified and quantified impacts and benefits relating to investment, employment, business participation, workforce accommodation, cumulative impacts and financial returns to the community. Mitigation measures were recommended to reduce/remove potential negative impacts and maximise community and economic benefits.
Spicers Creek Wind Farm received NSW Independent Planning Commission (IPC) approval in late 2024.
