Ethos Urban partnered with Transport for NSW to conduct a Women’s Safety Audit for the Validating Destination Bankstown project. Our comprehensive approach examined night time experiences, focusing on factors influencing feelings of safety within Bankstown City Centre.

With a focus on creating more inclusive cities, our team delved into understanding how women from diverse backgrounds experience the Bankstown City Centre after dark.

Through a tailored community engagement and social research process, we conducted an audit which examined the influence of how elements of the built environment, public and active transport connections and community activity levels contribute to perceptions of feeling safe or unsafe.

Women's Safety Audit. Validating Destination Bankstown.

A group of participants took part in a 90-minute night walk/shop along a designated route with a series of 7 stops. Participants completed the audit tool at each stop considering how the different aspects of the surrounding environment impacted their feelings of safety.

The outcomes of this study directly informed the development of the Validating Destination Bankstown Implementation Plan being prepared by Ethos Urban in partnership with Arcadis.
